About this service
Roofline lighting is where most displays begin, and for many homes in Laguna Beach it's all a house needs. One line of light along the eaves and up each gable draws the home against the dark, and on a hillside it can be seen from the street below as well as the one in front.
It's also the hardest part to do well from a ladder on a weekend. A straight line, even spacing and tidy corners depend on the right clip for each surface, runs cut to length, and safe access to the higher eaves.
- The classic outline that reads from down the street, or down the hill
- Lines that look deliberate, not draped
- Clips matched to tile, shingle, gutter or wood trim
- A starting point you can add an entry or trees to later

What a typical job covers
- Eaves and gutters
- Lights run along the gutter line or fascia, evenly spaced and level from one end of the run to the other.
- Peaks and gables
- Each gable is traced up one side and down the other, so the shape of the roof is drawn in light.
- Decks and railings
- On homes built around a view, balcony and deck railings can carry the line where the roof can't.
- Cords and connections
- Cords are routed along the roofline and down to the outlet as discreetly as the home allows.
What shapes the quote
- Total length of roofline and railing to be lit
- Height, pitch and how each run is reached
- Roof material: concrete tile, clay tile or shingle
- Number of peaks, valleys and corners
Good to know
- Older cottages often have original wood fascia and exposed rafter tails. The design works with that trim rather than fastening into it.
- If your gutters need cleaning or repair, it's best done before installation.
- On homes with several levels, the highest roofline usually makes the biggest difference.
Common questions
All questionsWill the clips damage my roof or gutters?
Lights are attached with clips designed for the surface rather than nails or staples. We look at the roof and gutters during the walk-through and raise anything that could affect the installation.
Can you light only the front of the house?
Yes. Most homeowners light the street-facing rooflines first. Other sides can be added if they're seen from the street, the beach or the canyon below.
